Auto updating moscow metro map
The Maxima Telecom – operator of Wi Fi services in Moscow metro has released a map that shows movement of passengers within their network, over the course of one day. White dots representing clusters of passengers moving on the dark blue background map makes a really futuristic impression.
It also makes us realise how much data this kind of services collected about people.
As for the turn-by-turn navigation, it works fine except Siri has troubles pronouncing Russian street names, not to mention that most street signs in Moscow are written in Cyrillic. It builds the most convenient metro route based either on your current location or the station name you type in. Depending on a taxi company that picks up your order, you can pay cash or using a Visa/ Master card. It promises “a private driver” type of service and I can assure you Wheely delivers just that. You don’t really have to be connected to a particular Wi Fi, it’s enough that Wi Fi on your smartphone is enabled. On the other hand this kind of data is a dream of every transportation and urban planner. The app gives you basic information about the location plus directions on how to get there. Taxi are two very similar apps that allow you to order a taxi based on your current location or address.Apple Maps is great if you are looking for walking directions, or using public transportation directions, or driving directions with turn-by-turn navigation. You can use the option “Get taxi now” or indicate a specific time.
